The Holocaust Center's mission is to remember those six-memorial lamps burnt in an opening in the front wall of Maitland museum and resource center each representing one million of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The center honors the survivors and keeps telling the story using photos, text, artifacts and art and characterizes the Jewish life before the Holocaust and moves through the Nazi persecution and the creation of Jewish colonization. It describes the life in the concentration camps, tales of Jewish resistance and accounts of the forced death marches. There is a DVD presentation using extracts from interviews and video from the center's archives to introduce visitors to Holocaust survivors and liberators. The library in the center has more than 5,000 volumes and over 500 videotapes on the Holocaust besides the permanent exhibit and also hosts several teacher workshops, traveling exhibits and film screenings throughout the year.
